The following are the requirements for Titling and Graphics. This information along with the template for titles in Microsoft Word will help you save time and money by preparing your titles ahead of the edit.
Titling requirements
We have hundreds of fonts on file so if you would like to pick them ahead, please come into our office and we’ll let you go through the list to pick what you want. If you have a favorite font on your computer, you can simply drag the font ( a .ttf file) on to a floppy disc and bring it into our facility. Mac files need to be handled differently and you can call one of our editors to get the details.
If you have an idea of font sizes please indicate how you would like them to appear on the character generator. Sizes in HD and SD are different. A normal name super is 80 or 90 horizontal lines high in HD as compared to 30 to 40 in SD. If you are not familiar with line heights for titles, the best way to determine size is to set up the titles ahead of the edit, view them on screen and adjust until the size is right. Also keep in mind all formats that you may be downconverting to. If you are planning to downconvert edge-cropped, make sure your titles will format correctly for a 4x3 screen.
Submitting all your titles in Microsoft Word ahead of the edit is very helpful. Single titles can be provided flush left on the page, separated. We cut and paste from your Word documents as name supers or complete roll pages. Rolls are more complicated and you can save a lot of time in the edit suite by preparing them in Word.
Included is a Word file that you can use as a template for submitting roll titles. The template is basically: left justified text followed by a tab, followed by a centered tab for center justified text, followed by a tab, ending with right justified text. For material that needs to be centered, simply use the center position. For two column rolls, use the left justified and right justified text areas and ignore the centered except perhaps for headings. For three column rolls, use all three areas. An example page is also included to give you a concrete idea of how the file should look. Font sizes will be added later.
If you are using logos in your rolls you need to get them to us ahead of your scheduled edit session in a tiff or Targa format, preferably with alpha channels to make the logo keyable.
The credit and name supers can be emailed to the Victory Studios ahead of the scheduled edit. That way any questions or problems can be ironed out ahead of time.
Graphics requirements
The following guidelines are for 1080i and 1080 24Psf.
Single images:
Tiff (.tif or .tiff) or Targa (.tga) format - preferably Targa.
Image size 1920 x 1080 32 bit (24 bit plus alpha) 72dpi
Name examples: Map1.tif or Map1.tga
For Animation or Scene file Transfers:
Targa ( .tga), Bitmap (.bmp), SGI/RGB (.sgi/.rgb), TIFF (.tif or .tiff), or YUV ( .yuv) formats. Also supported are quicktime and avi. Targa and SGI are preferred. All other formats require additional conversion time (additional cost).
Image size 1920 x 1080 24 bit 72dpi square pixels, lower field 1st for interlaced material.
Files need to be named sequentially starting with 0001.
Name examples: anim0001.tga or anim0001.tif, anim_0002.tga or anim_0002.tif, sample_0003.tga or sample_003.tif
Note: The names can be different as long as the numeric sequence is in ascending order and NO SPACES between name, number, and file extension. NO PERIODS except between the file and the extension. Underscores _ are acceptable in the filename.
We can accept or deliver sequential frames on media including CD-ROM, Jaz, Zip, DLT and Firewire, IDE or SCSI Hard Drives (we prefer Firewire Hard Drives). Some graphic files can be sent via the internet but there may be limitations on file size for upload/download time.
File transfers take time, so it is best to get these files to us ahead of the scheduled edit session. There is a charge for the file transfers.
