Downconversion
Down conversion from High Definition to Standard Defintion involves downsizing the image, changing the aspect ratio, and, in the case of 24P HD, changing the frame rate and timecode. When ordering downconversions, you need to specify what format you need the downconvert onto and what the aspect ratio that you want.

The aspect ratios that are available for downconversions are:
Letterbox - shows the full 16x9 image inside 4:3 field (black bars on top and bottom of picture)
Edge Crop - displays the image full height and cuts off the left and right sides of the 16x9 frame
Anamorphic - squeezes the image so that the entire 16x9 screen fits in the 4x3 screen area.

Here is the example of each three conversion method:

Upconversion

Upconversion is the conversion fromstandard definition to high definition. When ordering upconversions, you need to specify what format you need the upconvert onto and what aspect ratio that you want.

The aspect ratios that are available for upconversions are:
Full Width - The top and bottom of the 4:3 aspect ratio picture is cropped to fill a 16:9 aspect ratio screen, resulting in a 25 percent loss of vertical resolution.

Full Height -
The original 4:3 aspect ratio picture is inserted in a 16:9 window, resulting in black side panels. The side panels occupy 25 percent of the horizontal space.

Anamorphic
- 4:3 aspect ratio picture is stretched horizontally to fill a 16:9 aspect ratio screen, resulting in a 33 percent anamorphic distortion. Best when used if the SD video being upconverted was shot anamorphically.
